Understanding the relationship between the nation and nationalism and establishing the patterns of formation of nation-states in Europe, with a special emphasis on the Croatian nation and state. The emergence and shaping of national communities/identity construction. What is the role of cultural identification in this process, and what is the role of "blood kinship"? How do ethnic and national communities relate to political entities? To what extent is the value of the nation expressed today in the creation of a contemporary identity?
- explain the processes of certain historical periods and topics in accordance with historiographic approaches and research achievements
elaborate the hierarchy of historical factors and clarify the causality of historical processes
- apply the necessary knowledge from auxiliary historical sciences
- analyse the basic scientific achievements of other disciplines
collect and classify professional and scientific literature and research sources in archives, libraries, museums and other institutions
- analyse and interpret sources, scientific and professional literature
- critically evaluate the contribution of other scientific disciplines in historiographic work
- write a paper with the characteristics of scientific work (master thesis)
apply acquired skills for independent work and other forms of professional training in the context of lifelong learning
- adhere to ethical principles in the work and assessment of social circumstances and historical knowledge
- adopt socially responsible behaviour
The student will:
- be able to understand different theories about the nation, interethnic relations, ethnic groups, national minorities
- understand the circumstances that acted as integration and disintegration during the emergence of nation states in Europe
- determine identity and culture in the process of cooperation or conflict
- be able to apply theoretical perspectives to understand interethnic relations
in Europe, the processes of transition and globalization
- analyse and critically discuss different phenomena that arise and develop in interethnic relations

1. Regular attendance – attendance at least 70% of classes according to the study program and teaching plan;
2. Properly completed seminar obligations – prepared and presented seminar presentation and submitted written seminar paper;
3. Obtaining a minimum success of 35% of the total grade during classes within the assigned teaching activities – cumulatively achieved in seminar paper and continuous monitoring.
1) Teaching activities – seminar paper; continuous monitoring (activity in class, preparation for class, reflective review of teaching content)
2) Final exam (written)
Continuous evaluation of student work results in an overall grade based on 100 points:
sufficient (2) – 50-64 points
good (3) – 65-79 points
very good (4) – 80-89 points
excellent (5) – 90 and more points
Method of earning points:
a) Teaching activities – 70% of the grade
1) seminar paper – max. 35 points;
2) continuous monitoring (activity in class, preparation for class, reflective review of teaching content) – max. 35 points;
b) Final exam – 30% of the grade
final exam – max. 30 points (to pass, it is necessary to solve 50% of the final exam)

Student će:
- moći razumjeti različite teorije o naciji, međunacionalnim odnosima, etničkim grupama, nacionalnim
manjinama
- razumjeti okolnosti koje su djelovale integracijski i dezintegracijski pri nastanku nacionalnih država u
Europi
- odrediti identitet i kulturu u procesu suradnje ili sukoba
- znati primijeniti teoretske perspektive za razumijevanje međunacionalnih odnosa
u Europi, procesima tranzicije i globalizacije
- analizirati i kritički raspravljati o različitim pojavama koje se javljaju i razvijaju u
međunacionalnima odnosima
